Why Kids Love Trampolines

The mere mention of the world ‘trampoline’ is likely to make kids go pink with excitement. But why do they love them so much? Sure, kid’s trampolines are great fun – after all, what can beat that weightlessness as you jump higher, higher and higher?
However, there are some proven scientific reasons why trampolining rates so highly on the fun-scale for pretty much every child on the planet.
- Trampolining causes feel-good hormones to be released: Bouncing elevates the heart rate and increases how fast you breathe. This raised cardiovascular effort causes the brain to send signals to the endocrine system to secrete adrenaline and endorphins. These are powerful stimulators of positive feelings – in other words, they make you happy. When you see your children red-faced and panting from their bouncing exertions, the beams on their faces are a direct result of this internal mechanism. It’s one of the reasons that exercise is so good for the soul, as well as the body – and is a scientifically and medically accepted method of stimulating great mental health.
- It provides critical risk in a safe environment: It’s essential that kids are exposed to some levels of risk as they grow. That way they learn to assess situations and make the necessary decisions that define what actions are within safe parameters and which aren’t. Bouncing fun on a trampoline with a safety net allows them to push those barriers without the worry that they might bounce off and hurt themselves (although, it’s probably the parents who’re more worried about that than the children, in all honesty). Bouncing so high you scare yourself, learning a new trick and showing Mum and Dad your newly discovered abilities all play great roles in the journey that leads to a well-balanced adult.
- Tramps are great for social integration: Whether you’ve got a small model that the kids need to share or the largest family-sized monster taking up yard room, a kid’s trampoline is a fun place to share good times with others. You only need listen to those shrieks of laughter as they play to know that those who make them are learning vital social skills that they’ll put to great use as they grow.
Children love to be given the freedom to explore sensations, their own abilities, move outside of their comfort zones and generally discover what makes them tick. All of these are compelling reasons why adding a kid’s trampoline to your back garden might just be one of the wisest moves you make.
